Barbara Johnson Stern

Barbara has lived in Colorado for much of her life, although her practice has taken her to Ohio, Utah, Nebraska, New York and even London. Before attending Ohio Northern University for law school, Barbara completed her undergraduate degree at Colorado State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business.

During law school, Barbara competed in Moot Court trials each of her three years, ending her experience in a competition that found her, in its final round, making argument to a panel of three Federal District Court judges. She further served, first as staff attorney, then as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. After graduating from law school third in her class and with high distinction, she was licensed in Colorado in 1999. Except for a single year, she has practiced exclusively in family law since then. Although always based in Colorado, her practice has taken her to several states, and in 2015 she started the process of opening a London office while serving as a partner at a previous law firm. She ended her tenure there as a licensed solicitor, representing clients in London and nearby towns.

Barbara joined Hogan Omidi, PC in 2026. Barbara’s family law practice includes all areas of family law, but in the last several years she has developed extensive experience in high-asset divorce cases, cases involving wage-earners with complex compensation arrangements, contending with interests held in both private and public entities, real estate, business ownership, asset tracing, and extensive financial holdings. Throughout her practice, Barbara has developed a no-nonsense, straightforward way of communicating with her clients and helping them navigate the process by developing a sound strategy from the outset. Barbara maintains that the best way to prepare a client for reaching full agreement outside of Court, is to take the time to gather information, then ensure her clients are not only thoroughly prepared to reach a final settlement, but also being fully ready to take any issue to Court when necessary. Preparation is fundamental to Barbara’s practice. From the start of a case to the end of a case, Barbara is there, working with her clients to actively move a case forward, while employing decisive yet flexible strategy, and ready to provide thoughtful, considered advice based on the goals of her clients, the law and facts of a case, and her decades of experience in family law matters.

Outside of work, Barbara enjoys traveling to see her nieces and nephews, and spending time cycling or hiking and snowshoeing with her husband in our fabulous mountain ranges. During her time in London Barbara became a fan of rugby, and now she and her husband (born in London, England) travel as often as they can to their favorite annual rugby championship, where she insists, to her husband’s lasting disappointment, that she’s happy so long as Scotland leads England in the tables.
